Annual Botanical Printing Retreat

$475.00

Second weekend in September. Friday, 5:00 PM -
Sunday, 1:00 PM

Fall is a perfect time to capture the intensity of color and depth of detail in botanical printing. Plants are offering up powerful color and tannins, producing a captivating array of outcomes.

This deep dive will include the essentials of botanical printing, plus important new techniques, free studio time, and collaboration with others. Our weekend together will be an exploration into the many variations that botanical printing can offer.

On Friday, we’ll begin with the essentials of botanical printing. Each participant will gather plants from the garden and create a series of small prints that demonstrate the unique qualities of each plant.

On Saturday morning, we will learn how to prep fibers for printing, from scouring to mixing and fixing mordants, and will explore how different mordants affect the outcome of each print. We’ll also learn how to use a natual dye blanket to bring background color to each print.

On Saturday afternoon, participants will have free time to dive into printing, using larger fabrics, natural dyes and the array of plants in the garden.

On Sunday, we’ll explore additional techniques and each participant will have time to do a final project.
